Libyan Arab Airlines was one of the most important Arabian airlines in the 70s and 80s. However, The United Nations have imposed drastic sanctions on Libya after the bombing of the Pan Am Boeing 747 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988 by Libyan terrorists. The sanctions affected the Libyan Arab Airlines as well and the service was limited to domestic destinations. After Libya accepted responsibility for the Lockerbie bombing, the international relations were resumed and Libyan Arab Airlines is trying to re-establish its name on the market.
